READERS attended the Great Book Swap at Heathcote Library last Friday to raise funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation.<\/p>\n

Throughout the day participants made a gold coin donation to swap their books with others.<\/p>\n

“It was wonderful to see people embracing literacy positively and helping Indigenous communities,” said library service officer Ange Graystone.<\/p>\n

“All our Goldfields Libraries are participating to support the ILF to provide books and learning resources to children in remote communities across Australia.<\/p>\n

“The Great Book Swap is a great way to share the joy of literacy and raise funds for a great cause.<\/p>\n

“Every little bit helps.”<\/p>\n

The Indigenous Literacy Foundation is a national charity working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander remote communities across Australia.<\/p>\n

They are a community-led organisation, responding to requests from remote communities for culturally relevant books.<\/p>\n

This year the ILF is aiming to raise $150,000 to gift 15,000 new books to remote communities.<\/p>\n
