{"id":96902,"date":"2024-09-20T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-19T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=96902"},"modified":"2024-09-20T00:45:40","modified_gmt":"2024-09-19T14:45:40","slug":"a-beary-good-picnic-at-playgroup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/a-beary-good-picnic-at-playgroup\/","title":{"rendered":"A beary good picnic at playgroup"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Tooborac Playgroup held a Teddy Bear&#8217;s Picnic for the last session of term three.<\/p>\n<p>Children, parents and community members brought along their favourite teddies and stuffed toys for a session of teddy-themed songs, games and stories.<\/p>\n<p>Emily Alexandra, who attends the playgroup every week with two-year-old daughter Leonie, said they both enjoy the weekly themes and activities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is wonderful that the community is able to use this fantastic school,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>After Tooborac Primary School was deemed non-operational this year due to lack of enrolments, an action group was formed to promote future enrolments.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/09\/TooboracTeddyBears-2_22081.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Playgroup facilitator Janita Dundon, with daughter Millie, welcomes parents, grandparents and community members to each fun-filled session.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Supported by the TPS Community Action Group and the primary school, a playgroup was formed to bring families together.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There are a lot of two- and three-year-olds in the playgroup and we are all hoping the school is here for us when we need it,&#8221; said Ms Alexandra.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My partner and I would love to send our daughter here in future years, as would a lot of locals.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;It is not unusual for towns to have a dip in enrolments, then a boom as families grow.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2024\/09\/TooboracTeddyBears-1_23853.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"378\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Kate Wright and Theo, and Hannah Kerr and Sophie, went down to the Teddy Bear&#8217;s Picnic for lots of fun and games.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;ve seen other regional locations merge schools and it&#8217;s a disaster. Then you have beautiful buildings sitting unused.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When so much money was invested in TPS in recent years, I really hope that doesn&#8217;t happen here. If six kids enrol for next year it will keep the school operational.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I would encourage any local families hoping to send their kids here, at any stage in the future, to fill in an enrolment form.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>An open day will be held at the school on Sunday 13 October.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We will have a barbecue and families can view the school facilities and meet community members,&#8221; said TPS Community Action Group member Sue Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have a wonderful supportive community, and anyone interested in enrolling their children is welcome.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The playgroup, led by Janita Dundon, has been very successful and we are pleased it will continue in term four.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Upcoming themes for the playgroup include bugs, numbers, Australian animals and dinosaurs.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone interested in joining the playgroup, which meets every Tuesday at 9.15am, can contact Ms Dundon on 0409 857 764.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Tooborac Playgroup held a Teddy Bear&#8217;s Picnic for the last session of term three.
