HEATHCOTE’S gardeners have been set a challenge; to grow big, beautiful zucchinis for the inaugural Heathcote Zucchini Festival.<\/p>\n

The festival will be held on Sunday 2 March at the community house.<\/p>\n

“The idea for the festival arose out of the growing and sharing of veggies that happens here in Heathcote,” said co-organiser Amanda Collins.<\/p>\n

“By March, it’s usually quite difficult to give zucchinis away as everybody has them.<\/p>\n

“We just thought, why not celebrate that?”<\/p>\n

Ms Collins and keen gardener Mel Matyson dreamed up the idea for the festival over coffee one morning.<\/p>\n

Locals are urged to plant zucchinis now ready for the inaugural Heathcote Zucchini Festival to be held on Sunday 2 March.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

There will be fun competitions like the biggest home-grown zucchini and the best zucchini cakes.<\/p>\n

Kids’ activities and cooking classes will also happen on the day.<\/p>\n

“With help from community house, and sponsorship from Mandalay, there will be plenty of zucchini silliness for adults and children to get involved in,” said Ms Collins.<\/p>\n
