FOR the first time in a decade, Heathcote has both bowls teams in the finals action of Bendigo Campaspe Goldfields weekend pennant.<\/p>\n
After finishing on top of the division three ladder, Heathcote takes on Marong in Saturday\u2019s second semi-final on Eaglehawk\u2019s greens in Simpson\u2019s Road from 1.30pm.<\/p>\n
Although beaten by Woodbury in last Saturday\u2019s final match of the home-and-away series, Heathcote finished on top of the division three ladder.<\/p>\n
A closely-fought clash with Woodbury went the way of the visitors by six shots, 76-70.<\/p>\n
After an even start Chris Morcom\u2019s rink led Peter O\u2019Connor by five shots after 11 ends.<\/p>\n
Despite losing two shots on the last end, Morcom claimed a 23-16 win.<\/p>\n
Bill Gardiner\u2019s rink was level with the Maurice McMahon-skipped team on the 4th , 10th and 13th ends.<\/p>\n
Woodbury fired up to win four ends in a row on the way to a 19-16 victory.<\/p>\n
Maurice Lee\u2019s rink won four of the first five ends against Alan Brodie.<\/p>\n
The visitors won the next six ends to gain a 10-shot buffer.<\/p>\n
After the final bowl the Brodie rink led 19-15.<\/p>\n
Adam Luxford\u2019s rink was level with Len Handley on the 6th , 10th , 12th and 19th ends.<\/p>\n
Handley won the last two ends to claim a 22-16 result.<\/p>\n
In division six, Heathcote needed victory at Golden Square to seal a finals berth.<\/p>\n
The Saints played inspired bowls to win 58-53.<\/p>\n
Denis Kilner started well against Terry McManus as scores were tied on the eighth end.<\/p>\n
The Bulldogs then took control before Kilner hit back to win the last two ends.<\/p>\n
After the final bowl McManus led 21-16.<\/p>\n
Brian Berger struggled early against Kevin Watson but fought back to level scores on the 14 th end.<\/p>\n
The Saints were beaten on just two more ends on the way to a 15-11 victory.<\/p>\n
Ray Anderson won the first four ends against Terence Kope, but faced an 11-shot deficit after 12 ends.<\/p>\n
The Anderson-rink lifted its play markedly to clinch a 27-21 win.<\/p>\n
Heathcote will play North Bendigo in Saturday\u2019s first semi-final in White Hills from 1.30pm.<\/p>\n
The Heathcote Bowling Club\u2019s singles championships were played on February 23.<\/p>\n
In the men\u2019s final, Maurice Lee defeated Greg Speirs.<\/p>\n
Winner of the women\u2019s championship was Eileen O\u2019Brien against Dot Cutajar.<\/p>\n
Social bowls on February 19 was won by Dave Thomas (s) and Dennis Anderson, three wins, 43 points, +10 shots.<\/p>\n
Runners-up were Lorraine Speirs (s) and Richard Edwards, two wins, one draw, 37 points, +9 shots.<\/p>\n
Tuesday Night Social Pennant finals were played on February 18.<\/p>\n
In division one, Bowls Of Fire defeated Foursomes.<\/p>\n
Bowling Anom won the division two play-off against Scully Cats.<\/p>\n
