Deputation<\/strong><\/p>\n

A deputation consisting of the Mayor and the President of the Shire has been appointed to proceed to Melbourne to urge on the Minister of Railways to include a line to Heathcote in the next batch of railways, Kilmore and Pyalong to be written to co-operate.<\/p>\n

Accident<\/strong><\/p>\n

A little boy named John Dempster, about 11 years of age, suffering from dislocation of the elbow joint, was admitted into the Hospital on Friday last, where he was attended to and the dislocation reduced.<\/p>\n

The injury was caused by the little fellow accidentally falling down while at play with other children.<\/p>\n

This is the fourth or fifth accident of the kind that has happened in this locality within the last few months.<\/p>\n

Photography<\/strong><\/p>\n

We would draw attention to the fact that Mr Bloch, photographer, who has been very successful in giving general satisfaction in prosecuting his art on both occasions of his visits to Heathcote, advertises that Saturday, the 20th inst., will be the last day on which he will take photographs here.<\/p>\n

We would therefore remind those who have not available themselves of the services of Mr Bloch, and wish to do so, not to delay much longer, as we are informed that the day mentioned will positively be the last.<\/p>\n

100 years ago<\/strong><\/p>\n

Costerfield news<\/strong><\/p>\n

Costerfield has against settled to down to regular toil. Each dwelling in Costerfield has occupant now, and if any more were available other families would be living here.<\/p>\n

Cricket practice again commenced on Wednesday and possibly Costerfield and Moormbool combined could place two teams in an Association, if others would join up. The matter will be discussed here this week. The club has the necessary material in hand now.<\/p>\n

A euchre party and dance was held in the hall on Saturday night, and though the attendance was not up to the usual standard the evening was successful.Mr Jenkins, of Heathcote, kindly took charge of the euchre tables. The entertainment was in aid of the Cricket club funds, but the cricketers were chiefly conspicuous by their absence.<\/p>\n

Mr J Armstrong conducted the service at the Methodist Church on Sunday night. At the close of his address Mr J Fawcett presented Mr Armstrong with the framed certificate of service in the Sunday School Department covering a period of 41 years; 1883 to 1912 Creswick, 1912 to 1924 Costerfield. The certificate had three stamps impressed upon it, the first 20 years service, the second 30 years and the third 40 years.<\/p>\n

Fire protection<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mr Andy Banks, Forests Officer, informed the meeting that he was in the process of drawing up fire protection plans for the McIvor Range Reserve and Pink Cliffs.<\/p>\n

Mr Banks said that when this is completed it will be presented to the Forests Commission for their approval as they have control of these areas.<\/p>\n

Mr Banks said a World Forestry Day will be held in March of this year.<\/p>\n

Vandals attack bee pavilion<\/strong><\/p>\n

Local apiarists, Mr Bob Campbell and Mr John Pianta, have been instrumental in the completion of the bee pavilion at the McIvor Range Reserve and the Committee is indebted to the efforts they have put into this exhibit.<\/p>\n

It is possibly the only working exhibit in the State and can be viewed without getting stung as the bees are encased in glass boxes.<\/p>\n

During a visit to the reserve, Mr and Mrs Morgan discovered that vandals had pulled off the door to the pavilion.<\/p>\n

The exhibits were not damaged. Entranced to the reserve was gained by the removal of wire from the front gate.<\/p>\n
