{"id":99476,"date":"2025-05-02T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-01T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=99476"},"modified":"2025-04-30T21:16:45","modified_gmt":"2025-04-30T11:16:45","slug":"heathcote-gathers-to-remember-and-reflect","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/heathcote-gathers-to-remember-and-reflect\/","title":{"rendered":"Heathcote gathers to remember and reflect"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>THE Heathcote community and RSL members gathered on Anzac Day to pay their respects, beginning with the Dawn Service at the Lone Pine Memorial on Camp Hill.<\/p>\n<p>The service was followed by a traditional Gunfire Breakfast at the RSL Hall.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/05\/Anzac3_24887.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Veterans and family members marched along High Street led by piper Douglas Thomson following the commemoration service.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>A Commemoration Service in the hall at 10am featured guest speakers, local school children, official guests and tributes in song.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/05\/Anzac4_27978.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">The Wandering Minstrels were joined by the Heathcote Combined Schools Choir to sing I am Australian.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Heathcote RSL Sub-Branch president Miles Humphrey said he was very pleased with the attendance for all events throughout the day.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/05\/Anzac6_33232.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"400\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Charlie Miller admired the artwork by local school children.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Anzac Day is an important day for all who served in the Great War, the Second World War and all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;And there has never been a more important time to reflect and hope we never see the horrors of war again.&#8221;<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/05\/Anzac7_38687.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"399\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jeffrey Arthur sang And the band played Waltzing Matilda during the commemoration service.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Indie, of the Heathcote Brownie Guides, said she found it moving to remember all those who served. &#8220;It is good to acknowledge what they did for us and to take a moment to appreciate it,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>THE Heathcote community and RSL members gathered on Anzac Day to pay their respects, beginning with the Dawn Service at the Lone Pine Memorial on Camp Hill.
