{"id":99583,"date":"2025-05-09T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-05-08T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=99583"},"modified":"2025-05-07T22:55:45","modified_gmt":"2025-05-07T12:55:45","slug":"everyone-a-winner","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/everyone-a-winner\/","title":{"rendered":"Everyone a winner"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FREE community activities and heroic race performances were highlights at the Heathcote Community Games and O&#8217;Keefe Challenge last weekend.<\/p>\n<p>There were events for all ages and abilities, and free family-friendly activities.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are very grateful to our community for supporting our local Heathcote and District Community Bank throughout the year, allowing them to once again be the major sponsor of HCG at the O&#8217;Keefe event,&#8221; said community house executive officer Vicki Forde.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The free family friendly activities are an amazing addition to the O&#8217;Keefe event, allowing our community to enjoy some free family fun without it having to cost them a packet, or to drive to another town, and it keeps the children entertained for hours.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The first ever HCG event was held in 2015 and was a huge success bringing families out to have fun and connecting our community groups, businesses and amazing volunteers.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;In 2016 HCG ran a fun run which quickly became, later that year, the O&#8217;Keefe Challenge event that is still running today.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_99584\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99584\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-99584\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/05\/Okeefe02_67971.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"447\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-99584\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jaxson and Hailey enjoyed a game of chess.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are very proud of the connection and awareness our mascots Fazzi (Brush-tailed Phascogale) and Priscilla (The Powerful Owl) continue to bring to our local and extended community, about our local critters and our beautiful environment.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We look forward to continuing the important awareness.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Ms Forde said anyone interested in being a part of the HCG events in future are welcome to reach out.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Call Heathcote Community House on 5433 2820 for more information,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>More than 700 entries were received for the O&#8217;Keefe Challenge events which included a marathon, half marathon, a superhero dash, relays and a 1.5km quiz walk around Heathcote.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_99590\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99590\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-99590\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/05\/Okeefe05_77872-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"987\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-99590\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Well done: Stacey Bulger was at the finish line to congratulate Rhys Whittaker after winning the half-marathon.
