{"id":99860,"date":"2025-06-06T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2025-06-05T18:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/?p=99860"},"modified":"2025-06-04T22:17:58","modified_gmt":"2025-06-04T12:17:58","slug":"mad-hats-and-marvellous-food","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/timesnewsgroup.com.au\/mcivortimes\/news\/mad-hats-and-marvellous-food\/","title":{"rendered":"Mad hats and marvellous food"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>HEATHCOTE Health Aged Care marked the conclusion of the Maggie Beer Foundation Trainer Mentor Program with a Mad Hatter&#8217;s Tea Party for residents, staff and visitors last week.<\/p>\n<p>The Trainer Mentor Program pairs aged care home kitchen teams with a qualified chef trainer who mentors the team to serve flavourful, nutritious food and deliver an enhanced dining experience for residents in aged care homes.<\/p>\n<p>Chef trainer Michael Nam congratulated the kitchen team from Heathcote Health and said they had excelled in their efforts throughout the 12-month program.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Real action happens when people listen and are prepared to change routines,&#8221; he said. &#8220;The staff are all unsung heroes, prepared to go the extra mile and have made a difference.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Heathcote Health Aged Care is a home, not just a facility.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/06\/Madhatter3_68892.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"456\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Wonderland fun: Jenny Casey and Michelle Stirling with mentor Michael Nam, look forward to continuing their connection and future visits. Photos: SANDRA JAMES<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The food is a credit, and the spread delivered for the party is standard not just something special for today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Head of the kitchen team, Jenny Casey, said the journey they had been on as part of the program has been and will continue to make residents&#8217; food go from good to great.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When we started this journey, I did not think we would achieve as much as we have and there is still more to come,&#8221; she said.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are very lucky to have a beautiful new kitchen to work in which has made the experience a little bit easier.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_99866\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-99866\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-99866\" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/06\/Madhatter6_77661-1-rotated.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"851\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-99866\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Aged Care Corporate Services Manager Andrew Walker joined staff and residents to dress up for the afternoon.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We also have the kitchen garden to look forward to, where we can grow useable herbs, fruit and seasonable vegetables to add extra freshness and flavour to our dishes.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have taken on board many of Maggie&#8217;s recipes and trialled those with residents. Mostly everything we cook on site is made from scratch from fresh produce.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The introduction of our homemade afternoon teas, sweet and savoury has been a real hit with both residents and staff.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We have had our challenges throughout the process, but the challenges have been just a small bump in the road and great leaning points.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We look forward in the continuation of growing further and in accomplishing bigger and better things within our team to deliver only the best for our aged care.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_30038\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-30038\" style=\"width: 600px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-30038 \" src=\"https:\/\/static.timesnewsgroup.com.au\/prod\/uploads\/sites\/25\/2025\/06\/Madhatter7_80889.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"444\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-30038\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Resident Diana said the catering team always make wonderful meals.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I want to thank Michael for his wonderful mentorship and this whole experience. He is a big part of our team now and part of the Heathcote Health family.
