A spicy night on offer

THE Mount Gambier community has the unique opportunity to meet Dr. Hilary Caldwell for a spicy night of adult storytelling on Thursday, September 4, at 7pm at City Hall, The Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre.

Dr. Hilary is an author, sexologist, nurse and proud sex worker with a deep commitment to gender equality.

In 2003, as a single mother of four juggling nursing shifts and childcare, she began sex work to support her family.

What started as a practical decision became a transformative journey—reshaping her understanding of gender politics, human connection, and social change.

This experience led her to pursue advanced studies in sexual health, culminating in her work as a practicing sexologist.

With a PhD in Philosophy, Masters in Science and Applied Science, Dr Hilary kept her academic and professional worlds separate for twenty years to protect her family.

Last year she chose to come out with the publication of ‘Slutdom: Reclaiming Shame-Free Sexuality’, a book that is making waves all over the country.

“In Slutdom, I argue that women’s enjoyment of sex isn’t just personal, it’s a force for gender equality,” Dr Hilary said. “Through intimate interviews, personal insights, and academic research, I challenge the shame-based narratives that hold women back. My book is unapologetically bold, it explores pleasure, pain, empowerment and desire, blending real women’s stories with practical, saucy insights.”

This is a free event is proudly presented by Collins Booksellers Mount Gambier with organisers hoping for a fun filled night.

“Dr Hilary is a natural storyteller and very entertaining. At her launch in ACT, Dr Hilary had the audience of 150 people captivated,” Collins Booksellers Mount Gambier’s Phoebe Beare said. “We invite our community to feel empowered and ask the questions they have always felt off limits.”

Bookings are now open on Eventbrite – or for more information contact Collins Booksellers Mount Gambier on (08) 8723 1056.
