Celebrating bubbles in style
POPO & Cuvée-Co is thrilled to announce their recent accolade presented by The Bubbles Review, based initially on a nomination in a regional or metro state category, with public voting to decide the winners.
Winning the overall 2025 National Best Place Bubbly Award marks the excellent sparkling wines offered from the Limestone Coast, that are now available in Penola, at the recently opened cellar door and tasting room, POPO.
Cuvée-Co Wines is family owned, utilising Limestone Coast cool climate fruit to create six Australian Sparkling Wines.
Luxury packaging with original artwork adorns the labels and owner Peta Baverstock has been recognised as a finalist in the Vin de Champagne Awards four times, named in the Top 50 Wine Makers Young Gun in 2019, and twice winner of the Best Young Sparkling Wine of Show, 2021 and 2024 at the Australian Sparkling Wine Show.
Peta understandably welcomed this latest accolade for Cuvee-Co Wines “Being named The Best Bubbly Place in Australia was a complete surprise,” she said. “Even the nomination was a wonderful nod to the venue, and a moment to stop and reflect on what I have created in the past year.”
Cuvee-Co Wines also offers an accessible tasting experience, having opened POPO (Penola’s Old Post Office) in January last year as a tasting room to showcase Peta’s exclusively multi award winning sparkling wine range.
“The venue may not be as opulent as some of the other amazing nominees, but the ~150-year-old building has a lot of charm and is flooded with natural light, and I knew it could become a joyous (sparkling) space,” Peta said. “I am much smaller on all scales, including the 50m2 footprint of the building, however staying small my focus remains tight, and I’ve created POPO, in Penola to be a tasting room destination”.
Each wine has been meticulously made from grapes grown within the region and only a small amount of wine is made each year, and with sparkling wine requiring two fermentations it can be a lengthy process.
The tasting experience is guided and a highlight for any wine touring in the district.
Given it is a small space, Peta describes the experience as ‘like being at a Sake Bar’, only seven seats at the bar, with another 12 seated at tables, so it doesn’t take many to create the ‘sardine can’, a nickname Peta is happy to run with- even more so now the secret is out.
POPO is open Friday’s from 3pm and Saturday’s 12-4pm or by appointment.
The Bubbles Review is a multi-award-winning business and creator of the popular national event series The Bubbles Festival, recently announcing the winners of its inaugural 2025 Favourite Bubbly Place Awards (FBPA) — recognising the best places across Australia to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine.
Venues were nominated by bubbly lovers around Australia based on criteria including atmosphere, sparkling wine offering, service, and overall experience.
The shortlist was then put to a nationwide vote to determine the winners — one city and one regional venue per state — as well as an overall national favourite.
