Celebrating this region’s women

February 23, 2024 BY

Women in Business and Regional Development are set to host their International Women’s Day Breakfast on Friday, March 8, with tickets selling fast.

Hosted locally by Toni Vorenas, the event will once again stream the 2024 Adelaide IWD Breakfast hosted by Penny Wong and in conversation with Annabel Crabb, one of Australia’s most beloved journalists.

Come along and network with others in the community and enjoy a delicious breakfast and a barista made coffee.

This year’s International Women’s Day’s focus is on the need for economic inclusion and investment to accelerate progress for women and girls everywhere. #Countherin

During the morning inspiring local dance and video artist Anya McKee will talk about her exhibit ‘Woman’s Work’ which showcases our incredible regional women and the incredible work they carry out everyday.

Anya has worked closely with WiBRD in bringing the exhibit, now showing at the Riddoch Arts and Cultural Centre, and the March 8 live dance theatre production at the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre, together.

These portraits highlight some of the many amazing women and allies this region has working locally, amongst them are; Moandik and Meintangk Elder Yawari (Aunty) Penny Bonney, Bahá’í community leader and teacher Hovieda Saberi, local community health worker and rollerblade artist Candi Mendoza Nunez Smith, winemaker and director of Bellwether Sue Bell, proud Meintangk and Wotjubalak woman, medical sonographer and genetic counselling student Dannielle Ghezzi, agriculturist, cook, artist and creator of The Post and Rail Cindy Bunt, principal dentist and director of Illumident Isabel Holmes, art worker and drag performer Kyra Sykes, as well as mother, gardener and loved senior community member Elizabeth Hodges.

Each portrait created shares what ‘woman’s work’ means to them for International Women’s Day 2024.
