Community forum to tackle animal management
Concerns over animal management in Mount Gambier has prompted the Mount Gambier Residents and Ratepayers Association’s Animal Welfare Sub-Committee to convene a community meeting to discuss the upcoming legislative changes in cat management in the community, and the responsibilities of council in the animal management space.
The association has become increasingly concerned about animal welfare in the community over the past 12 months so with new legislation about cat management in the pipeline the time for some consultation with the wider community.
The meeting is set down for Wednesday, January 15, at 5.30pm at Shop 6, 78-80 Jubilee Highway West to discuss community concerns and propose strategies going forward.
Mount Gambier City Council, District Council of Grant and Wattle Range Council have been invited to the community meeting, as well as key animal rescue groups.
With the City of Mount Gambier looking to hold an information session on the legislative changes next month, the Mount Gambier Residents and Ratepayers Association is looking to put together an official submission for consideration prior to that session.
Association chair Di Ind is encouraging all interested community members to make time for the January 15 meeting.
