Competition set to capture the region

June 23, 2025 BY

MEMBER for Barker Tony Pasin MP is again running Barker’s Best Photo Competition and this year, to honour and celebrate local primary producers the 2025 theme will be ‘Barker’s Primary Production – Tears and Triumph’.

Barker is known as a region of thriving productivity and world class produce. From fresh fruit and vegetables to award winning wines, seafood, meat, grains, fibre and timber, this area is a food bowl for not only the state, but also the nation and indeed the world.

As Mr Pasin says, a reputation like this doesn’t happen by accident.

“As regional farming communities know, our primary producers work incredibly hard and face immense challenges,” Mr Pasin said.

“Since our very first farmers tilled the soil, they’ve faced the challenges of this largely arid land and they have continued to succeed over generations because they are resilient, efficient and innovative.

“While our farmers are struggling through one of the worst droughts on record, I want to highlight and celebrate that Australia, and indeed Barker, has some of the finest farmers in the world,” Mr Pasin said.

“Let’s tell the story in pictures. The good, the bad, the trials and the triumphs. The unique and unseen angles of this world-class region and those who live and work here. Whether it is fished, farmed, fresh or fermented, let’s go behind-the-scenes of getting our food and fibre from paddock to plate,” Mr Pasin said.

A winner from each of Barker’s regions – the Limestone Coast, the Murray Mallee, the Riverland and the Barossa – will receive a $250 voucher from a local business of their choice.

Entries will be displayed on Mr Pasin’s website gallery before being judged by an award-winning agricultural photographer and some of Mr Pasin’s favourite photos will be
