BOANDIK Inc has received another boost with an additional $1.6million in funding secured hot on the heels of announcing the successful contractor for the $2.87 million redevelopment of the Moore Court section of Boandik Kessal within the existing Lake Terrace footprint.

Mossop Construction + Interiors will be heading up that almost $3million dollar upgrade, while the additional project funding was secured as part of round three of the Commonwealth Government Aged Care Capital Assistance Program (ACCAP).

Mossop Construction + Interiors emerged as the preferred contractor following a comprehensive tender process, selected due to their strong alignment with project values and proven capability in delivering high-quality, community-focused developments.

The project has been designed in collaboration with architecture firm Brown Falconer and construction began at the end of last month and is expected to be completed by late March next year.

The combined grants – the $2.87million for the Moore Court Dementia Unit project and the welcome addition of the $1.6million to increase room capacity at Lake Terrace, represents a significant Federal investment in Mount Gambier.

Boandik has been one of only seven providers in round two and one of eight providers in round three in South Australia to secure funding through this highly competitive program, which aims to improve access to quality aged care for underserved communities.

Boandik board chair Vicki Quinn said this transformational project will completely redevelop Moore Court into a purpose-built, dementia-friendly unit, designed to provide best-practice care for residents living with dementia.

“The redevelopment addresses a critical shortage of dementia-specific care in Mount Gambier and will set a benchmark for future aged care projects.” Ms Quinn said.

“This funding is a testament to Boandik’s dedication to excellence in aged care. It empowers us to enhance our services and better meet the needs of our community.”

“The Board is immensely proud of this achievement, which aligns with our strategic goal to provide innovative and compassionate care for older Australians.”

“The redevelopment will not only improve care for residents but also provide a supportive environment for staff to deliver best-practice dementia care.”

“We look forward to the positive impact this project will have on families and individuals in Mount Gambier and the surrounding areas.”

Boandik CEO Dr Pamela Alde also welcomed the funding news and the start of works.

“With the grant received in round three, Boandik Inc will add a further $500,000, to increase the value to $2.1 million to be used at Lake Terrace to add further room capacity – works for this project are expected to begin in mid-2026 and be completed by mid-2027,” Dr Alde said.

“We are committed to working in partnership with residents and clients to address complex ageing issues, including the rising levels of dementia, mental health challenges, and loneliness that accompany this demographic shift.

“The increasing prevalence of dementia in our community necessitates innovative and compassionate care solutions. This redevelopment is a significant step toward meeting that need.”

“By creating a purpose-built, dementia-friendly environment, we aim to enhance the quality of life for our residents and provide peace of mind for their families.”

“Securing this funding is a monumental step forward for Boandik and the Mount Gambier community. It enables us to create a state-of-the-art facility that will significantly enhance the quality of life for residents living with dementia.”
