Council joins forces with Fringe organisers
CITY of Mount Gambier has resolved to enter into a multi-year partnership agreement with Fringe Berrin until 2027/2028, providing financial and in-kind support through the Grants and Sponsorship program.
Council has partnered with Fringe Berrin since the annual event began in 2017.
City of Mount Gambier General Manager People, Place and Liveability Chris White said council recognised Fringe Berrin’s significant contribution to the local economy of about $1.5million per year and the strategic links to supporting creative and cultural activation across the city.
“While the event won’t go ahead in its usual format this year, in 2025, council is supporting the Fringe Outreach program with $5000 cash, and an additional $2000 for a touring Fringe-related act via the quick response funding stream, Mr White said.
Fringe Berrin submitted a three-year partnership proposal to council late last year, including a business plan, budget and marketing plan which was discussed at a council briefing session on January 28.
At the February 2025 Council meeting, elected members resolved to enter into a multi-year partnership agreement with Fringe Berrin to the value of:
$51,500 and (up to) $7000 in-kind in 2025/26,
$53,045 and (up to) $7500 in-kind in 2026/27,
$56,000 and (up to) $8000 in-kind in 2027/28.
“Fringe Berrin brings a unique blend of community benefits, creating a vibrant atmosphere and bringing excitement to the city through activation of public spaces and venues,” Mr White said.
Fringe Berrin and the City of Mount Gambier are pleased to continue to partner to deliver the Fringe Mount Gambier festival.
Fringe Berrin artistic director Louise Adams said they were delighted with the City of Mount Gambier’s decision for a multi-year funding partnership to support the Fringe Mount Gambier festival.
“Through the recent workshop, it was great to have the opportunity to speak directly to elected members about the many different ways Fringe Mount Gambier brings value to our community,” Lousie said. “It is wonderful to see this value recognised and encouraged with a three-year funding commitment.
“The cultivation of a vibrant and accessible arts festival takes hard work and support by many, and strong partnerships like the one between Fringe Berrin Inc and the City of Mount Gambier are integral.
“The Fringe committee is thankful for the council’s ongoing support and we look forward to presenting the much-loved festival in 2026.”
Council administration will meet with Fringe Berrin regularly to ensure all opportunities for the event are explored, monitored and measured, with a report provided by the committee to council by December 31 annually.
Round two of the Grants and Sponsorships program is now open for applications.
