Countdown is on to jazz festival
THE countdown is on for this year’s Generations in Jazz with tickets now available for the raft of events over the May 2-4 event, which is also chasing volunteers to ensure the weekend runs smoothly.
With the return of the hugely popular Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, alongside the extraordinary talents of Darren Percival and Michelle Nicolle, the 2025 edition of the jazz festival is not to be missed.
More than 4500 students from across Australia have registered to attend, meaning Generations in Jazz promises to be an unforgettable celebration of youth, creativity, and musical excellence.
The permanent pavilions at the OB Flat site have taken shape beautifully, creating a vibrant atmosphere for what is set to be a fantastic weekend of jazz.
The call is out to the community for volunteers, both individuals and charity and community groups, to help make this event a success.

Tickets for Generations in Jazz 2025 are now on sale, providing various options for attendees to experience the festival:
Friday Jazz at the Corner – Mount Gambier City Hall: Kick off your weekend with a vibrant, free community concert on Friday, May 2, showcasing local school talent. No ticket is required—just bring your passion for music.
Festival Pass: Enjoy full access from May 2 to May 4, granting entry to all concerts, stage band and vocal competitions, and scholarship presentations. Immerse yourself in the world of jazz.
Welcome Concert – May 2: Join us for an unforgettable evening at the James Morrison Pavilion featuring Gordon Goodwin and his Small Phat Band, featuring Darren Percival and Michelle Nicholle. Doors open at 6PM.
Scholarship Adjudication No. 1 – May 2: Experience the future of jazz as talented musicians compete for scholarships at The Barn Palais, starting at 8.30PM.
Saturday Day Pass – May 3: Enjoy a full day of performances from 8AM to 5PM, including national stage band and vocal ensemble awards and showcases of young talent.
Scholarship Adjudication No. 2 – May 3: Witness emerging musicians compete for scholarships at The Barn Palais, starting at 2PM.
Gala Concert – May 3: Celebrate the festival’s grand finale at the James Morrison Pavilion, headlining Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, featuring the incredible Vangie Gun Goodwin, doors open at 6PM, with the concert starting at 7PM.
Awards Concert – May 4: Conclude the festival with an inspiring concert that recognizes the outstanding talents of performers, held at the James Morrison Pavilion.
