Creator Lab opens its doors
HAMILTOM Gallery is excited to announce the official opening of The Creator Lab, a vibrant new hub for arts education and creative learning after an official event at the weekend.
Located at 84 Brown Street, Hamilton, The Creator Lab opened its doors with a fun-filled launch event for the whole family.
The event included hands-on art activities, demonstrations, and a first look at the inspiring new space dedicated to creativity and community engagement.
Thanks to $262,500 in funding from the Department of Education’s Strategic Partnerships Program (SPP), Hamilton Gallery has transformed the location into a dedicated space for workshops, community programs, and artistic exploration—especially for young people.
The Creator Lab is now the permanent home for the Gallery’s much-loved HG Kids and HG Young Creatives programs, offering a tailored environment for learning, making, and self-expression.
Madi Whyte, Engagement and Development Coordinator at Hamilton Gallery, said this was a fantastic opportunity for young people.
“With access to materials, technology, and support, we can deliver high-quality, hands-on programs that inspire creativity and learning on a regular basis,” Ms Whyte said. “It’s a game-changer for art education in our community.”
Weekly programs including HG Play and HG Young Creatives are already underway, offering children and teens creative sessions in drawing, mixed media, and digital art tools.
These workshops nurture imagination, encourage artistic skill-building, and provide a welcoming, inclusive space for personal expression.
Southern Grampians Shire Council Mayor Cr. Dennis Heslin praised the initiative.
“We’re proud to see local investment in our young people. Spaces like The Creator Lab ensure that the next generation has access to first-class arts education right here in Hamilton,” Cr Heslin said.
Southern Grampians Shire Council CEO Tony Doyle said this was an outstanding outcome for the region.
“This crucial support from the state government allows us to offer meaningful and inclusive access to the arts—something every community deserves,” Mr Doyle said.
The Creator Lab is set to become a vital part of the gallery’s public programming, providing year-round opportunities for creative connection across the community.
