Debut performances at dance showcase
FOR more than three decades, MJ Dance Studio has produced an epic end of year concert and this year will be no different.
Hosted at Mount Gambier’s Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre on Saturday, December 7, the concert is a showcase of the school’s top performers and troupes across all ages, as well as new, never before seen production performances that never disappoint.
MJ Dance Studio principal Maria Slape said the school would be presenting three production extravaganzas – their version of Wicked and Aladdin and the ballet Coppelia.
The production pieces are always dynamic and impressive – not just the skill of the dancers, but the sets and costumes.
“They (production numbers) are done just for the concert so no one has seen them during the year,” Maria said. “It is the most fun thing we do.”
It will be a bittersweet concert with around 10 dancers bidding the school farewell.
“It is exciting for them and it is always an exciting time when they can end their time with MJ at the annual concert and then National Showcase in January,” Maria said.
Jazz, hip hop and contemporary are the styles that will dominate the program, as well as an aerial solo.
“It is a really entertaining night, especially the production numbers.”
