Dedicated employee honoured with new staff award

IT was back in 1956 that O.G. Roberts & Co. founder Owen G. Roberts introduced an Annual Staff Achievements Presentation and the current crop of staff were honoured earlier this month at a celebration that also introduced a new award – the Gavin Doyle Memorial Trophy OGR Employee of the Year.

The new award, which was presented alongside staff milestones and other accomplishments from the last 12 months, was awarded in each department with each employee having an opportunity to nominate colleagues to be in the running for the Gavin Doyle honour.

The celebration event was hosted at Fat Frog Kitchen & Cocktails with entertainment from Duck the Magician and Lady & The Amp.

Dealer principal Bryce Roberts said his grandfather originally held the presentations as a breakfast meeting but it quickly evolved into a more formal evening event.

Bryce had mixed emotions as he introduced the new company-wide award.

“I had the profound honour of introducing a new tradition that will be cherished and remembered within our organisation for years to come,” he said. “It is essential to recognise and celebrate the extraordinary contributions and spirit of those who have made a lasting impact on our team.

“It is with both a heavy heart and a sense of deep admiration that I dedicate our new Employee of the Year Award to the memory of Gavin Doyle.

“Gavin was more than just a colleague; he was a beacon of positivity, a source of unwavering support, and a true embodiment of teamwork and dedication. His infectious enthusiasm and genuine kindness touched each and every one of us, leaving an indelible mark on our hearts and our workplace.

“Though Gavin is no longer with us, his legacy continues to inspire us every day. This award, now named the Gavin Doyle Employee of the Year Award, will serve as a tribute to his remarkable spirit.

“It will honour those among us who, like Gavin, bring positivity, dedication, and a collaborative spirit to their work, uplifting everyone around them.

“As we move forward, let us keep Gavin’s memory alive by striving to emulate his exemplary qualities. Let us support one another, face challenges with a smile, and always remember the power of a positive attitude. In doing so, we not only honour Gavin’s legacy but also strengthen the very foundation of our team.”

The inaugural recipients of the Gavin Doyle Memorial Trophy were Ryan Philby (Service Reco. Department), Andrew Smith (Product Presentation Manager) and Luke Brooks (Service Admin).

OGR is looking forward to celebrating its 70th anniversary next year.
