Emerging Leaders Program

Rebecca Holmes & Kate Joseph

United Way Glenelg is pleased to welcome Rebecca Holmes as a Board Observer for the next 12 months as part of The Observership Program.

This initiative provides talented and emerging leaders with hands-on experience in not-for-profit board governance, fostering the next generation of community leaders.

Rebecca brings enthusiasm to the role, and her participation aligns with United Way Glenelg’s commitment to developing leadership within the sector and community.

The Observership Program enables individuals to gain insight into board processes, decision-making, and strategic planning while making meaningful contributions to the organisation.

United Way Glenelg Board member Kate Joseph, who has been in the role for more than four years, will serve as Rebecca’s Board Liaison throughout the program.

Kate will provide guidance, facilitate engagement, and ensure a productive and enriching experience for both Rebecca and the board.

United Way Glenelg executive officer Nicole Carr said they were excited to have Rebecca join them as part of The Observership Program.

“Her fresh perspective and commitment to our community will be an asset to our organisation,” Ms Carr said.

Board member Joanna MacDonald, from Casterton, was an Observer in 2023 and played a key role in introducing the concept to United Way Glenelg.

Her experience highlighted the program’s value in nurturing future board members and enhancing board diversity.

“Inspired by Joanna’s positive experience, United Way Glenelg embraced the initiative to further develop emerging leaders in the community,” Ms Carr said. “The program is a great opportunity to build leadership capacity in the not-for-profit sector while strengthening the governance of organisations like ours.”

The Observership Program has a strong track record of preparing emerging leaders for future governance roles, with more than 1200 individuals having participated since its inception. The program matches skilled professionals with not-for-profit and government-appointed boards to observe, learn, and contribute over a 12-month period.
