Entertainment for all the family
The Australian Chamber Orchestra Collective (ACO Collective) is set to hit Mount Gambier’s Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre stage for a handful of special performances targeting both families and classical music lovers during their visit.
There will be two performances on May 24 of the family show How to Catch a Star, including a special relaxed performance at 10.30am and a regular show at 12 noon, followed that evening with an intimate chamber music performance, An Evening with the ACO Collective Quartet.
How to Catch a Star is an enchanting production from the ACO, adapted from the international best-selling book by Oliver Jeffers for children aged three to eight and their families.
It is a tale of inspiration, imagination and whimsy, following the story of a young boy who loves stars so much he goes on a journey to find one of his own.
Adapted for stage by Sandra Eldridge, audiences will be enchanted by the story of perseverance and never giving up on your dreams.
To bring this delightful story to life, the ACO presents new and exquisite music scored by Elena Kats-Chernin.
For the evening’s performance, audiences can treat themselves to the dynamism and prowess of some of the nation’s best classical musicians as they cover masterpieces of yesteryear, alongside a brand-new Australian premiere of Australian composer Ella Macens’ Resting with Angels.
The Collective Quartet is comprised of graduates from the Australian Chamber Orchestra’s renowned Emerging Artist program.
Performing a repertoire for both fans of classical and for those just dipping their toes in, audiences can expect to hear the music of Beethoven, Bach, Hadyn and more across a 60-minute performance.
The Limestone Coast Symphony Orchestra will be opening for the ACO Collective Quartet, kicking off the evening’s event at 6.15pm, performing pieces from Mozart, Vivaldi, Bach and a piece composed by local composer Graeme Lyall.
