District Council of Grant rewards hard working high school students across the district with financial sponsorship.

Five young District Council of Grant residents and students between Years 10 to 12 studying at high schools within the district, and in neighbouring City of Mount Gambier, have been presented with a $750 Academic Scholarship Award for consistently demonstrating their schools values, an exemplary attendance record, and intent to undertake tertiary education.

District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston said Council is pleased to be able to support the community’s next generation each year who are committed to progressing their education.

“Council is proud to be able to support our local young achievers. Education is so important for the growth of our young people and these scholarships provide a great opportunity for students to further develop their skills, within their field of choice, which in turn benefits our community in a variety of ways,”

“I would like to extend a huge congratulations to all the 2024 scholarship recipients and wish them the best on their future education journey.”

2024 District Council of Grant Academic Scholarship Award winners are:

• Aleisha Brook – Tenison Woods College;

• Alicetyn Stanley – Allendale East Area School;

• Eva Peucker – St Martins Lutheran College;

• Kaitlin Boyd – Mount Gambier High School; and

• Zoey Norman – Grant High School.

Grant High School student and 2024 Academic Scholarship Award recipient Zoey Norman said she intends on using the scholarship funds to support her tertiary education.

“I aim to go to University to study Communication and Media, with the hope of being a Film Director,” Zoey said.

“As a rural student these funds will assist in alleviating some financial pressures that come with moving to the city, like transport and accommodation. I am very grateful to receive this scholarship and I want to thank the Grant District Council for their support for my future education.”

Grant High School Principal Caroline Davey added that Academic Award also acts as encouragement for students in their final years of high school study.

“Not only does the District Council of Grant Scholarship Award assist with the financial support needed to pursue educational goals, it also inspires and recognises academic excellence, motivating students to strive for continued success,” Ms Davey said.

“The Council’s commitment to supporting youth in our community plays an important role in fostering our students’ growth and assisting us in building future ready citizens.”
