Free skating & scooting

FROM kickflips and scoot tricks – Get rolling this Youth Week at Tarpeena and Port MacDonnell Skate Parks with free sessions.

The District Council of Grant are inviting young people of all skill levels to two Learn to Skate and Scoot sessions on Sunday 13 April 2025. Facilitated by YMCA, free and inclusive sessions will be held at:

• Tarpeena Skate Park, Corner of Riddoch Highway and Edward Street, Tarpeena from 11:00am to 1:00pm; and

• Port MacDonnell Skate Park, 12 Boat Ramp Access, Port MacDonnell from 2:30pm to 4:30pm.

District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston said Youth Week is a fantastic opportunity to bring young people together through fun and active experiences.

“The Learn to Skate and Scoot sessions are all about fun, confidence-building, and community. They help build friendships and encourage a healthy, active lifestyle in a supportive environment,” Mayor Boston said.

Each session will be run by experienced instructors from the YMCA’s Action Sports Team and lasts for approximately an hour, with space for up to 25 participants at a time. Local young people of all skill levels and abilities can take part in the hands-on sessions that focus on both skateboarding and scootering. Attendees will also learn about skate skill development, injury prevention, skate park etiquette and equipment maintenance.

“Whether you’re a beginner and never stepped on a skateboard or scooter before or you’ve already got some tricks under your belt, this is a great opportunity for all riders to connect with others and refine their skills.”

Youth Week is South Australia’s largest annual celebration of young people aged 12 to 25. The week aims to recognise the ideas, talents and contributions of young people in South Australia and incorporates a range of events created for young people to enjoy.

The Learn to Skate and Scoot sessions are proudly presented as part of Youth Week celebrations in the District Council of Grant, offering fun and meaningful activities for young people across the district.
