Freezing their assets to help FightMND

THE Penola community has done it again, raising more than $36,000 courtesy of its 2025 FightMND Big Freeze event.

And when you consider the community also rallied behind Swinging with the Stars entrant Adam Merrett, who smashed that event’s fundraising record with more than $78,000, it has been a big few months on the fundraising front.

The June 28 FightMND event saw the four year tally sitting at $92,000 and despite changes in 2025, including the auction heading online, this year’s tally eclipsed the 2024 effort.

Organiser Charmaine Moulton, who took up the cause when her in-laws both passed away courtesy of the insidious disease, was thrilled that the 2025 event was again a huge success.

The fundraising effort includes raffles at the Prince of Wales, a major raffle, the auction and the Big Freeze dunking event.

As they have in previous years, Charmaine said a raft of Penola local legends are selected to tackle the dunk tank, with the visiting club also offered a couple of places in the dunking line-up.

“It is always a massive day and it was great that football president Matt Tilby offered to host the event,” Charmaine said. “This community is just so generous and always gets behind a good cause.”

There will still be a FightMND fundraising event next year but the dunk tank is being sidelined before coming back bigger and better in 2027 so for now it is a case of watch this space for just what Charmaine and her team will come up with for the 2026 fundraiser.
