The Alliance Française French Film Festival (AF FFF), Australia’s largest national film festival and the biggest celebration of French cinema outside of France, has announced its 2025 return to the Sir Robert Helpmann Theatre, Mount Gambier.

The 36th edition of the event will touch all corners of South Australia from March 19-April 23 across metropolitan and regional centres to afford moviegoers the opportunity to embrace and experience French cinema.

Held annually, the event is set to showcase more than 5500 screenings of the crème de la crème of contemporary French film across 18 Australian cities as one of largest celebrations of French storytelling through its diverse genres, from comedy, drama and of course, l’Amour.

Alliance Française Adelaide executive director Anne-Lise Heynen-Giri said the festival was a significant event as it injects a burst of authentic French culture into the state.

“The Alliance Française French Film Festival is a highlight of the cultural calendar, bringing an exhilarating dose of authentic French flair to South Australia,” she said. “Our state’s vibrant arts scene eagerly embraces this festival year after year, making it a cornerstone event for cinephiles and creatives alike.

“It’s a celebration of the magic of French cinema—a chance to come together and immerse ourselves in its beauty, passion, and storytelling brilliance.”

Ahead of the AF FFF 25 arrival, newly appointed CEO Frédéric Alliod shared a ‘petit aperçu’ (‘little glimpse’) at what’s in store.

“As I step into my first year as CEO for the AF FFF, I couldn’t be more excited to share a few highlights from our truly exceptional 2025 programme, which will shine a spotlight on the established icons and rising stars of French cinema, while celebrating the visionary directors, vibrant storytelling and boundless creativity that defines French film today,” he said. “We will continue to proudly champion the incredible contributions of women in contemporary French cinema, with a strong focus on female characters, directors and empowering narratives.”
