Getting prepared for 2025

The Mount Gambier High School Class of 2025 started their Year 12 journey with a dynamic Preparation Day at UniSA, designed to equip students with essential tools for both academic success and personal growth.

The event began with an inspiring keynote address from Pioneers Women’s Head Coach Matt Sutton, who shared personal stories of overcoming challenges.

“Life will have its highs and lows, and it’s about learning how to navigate those moments,” Sutton said.

Following this, students participated in engaging workshops led by local Limestone Coast community and business leaders.

Charlotte Varcoe, a journalist from The Border Watch, shared her tips on time management and staying organised and Nick and Mayah from Headspace ran a workshop focused on mental wellbeing, helping students develop an A-Z guide for self-care and offering strategies for maintaining a healthy mindset.

“The level of engagement from students was fantastic, with some really constructive conversations taking place,” said Nick, headpsace Community Liaison Worker.

Active8 director and personal trainer Tammy White helped students understand the importance of good nutrition, guiding them through meal planning and exercises.

“Seeing the students laugh and smile throughout the day was truly rewarding,” Mrs White said.

Baptist Care case manager Darren Whitehorn pushed students outside their comfort zones with teamwork-building activities that emphasised communication, trust, respect, and collaboration.

“It was great to share my experience and engage with the students on the importance of working together as a team,” Mr Whitehorn said.

After lunch, members of the Class of 2024 – Amity, Harry, Jenna, and Nga – returned to share their experiences and tips for success, offering the Class of 2025 valuable insights into what lies ahead.

As one student reflected, hearing from last year’s students gave me some helpful techniques to set myself up for success.

The day wrapped up with a ‘Meet-Greet-Teach-Repeat’ session, where students had the chance to interact with their subject teachers, setting a positive tone for the year ahead.

“It was great to meet our teachers and learn about the subjects we’ll be studying,” one student said.

Mount Gambier High School Head of Senior Years Samantha Brown expressed her excitement for the year ahead.

“We can’t wait to see the Class of 2025 bring the enthusiasm, positivity, and energy from today into their studies throughout the year,” Ms Brown said.
