Glenelg Shire looking to help community groups

July 10, 2024 BY

The Glenelg Shire Council Community Grants Program is an extremely popular one and groups are being urged to get in early for the next round to avoid missing out.

Round one of the program for 2024-25 will be held slightly earlier this year, to avoid clashing with the election period leading up to October’s Local Government elections.

During this period Council cannot make decisions that could be seen as electioneering that favours existing Councillors that may be candidates in the upcoming election.

That means Councillors will have to decide on successful recipients at the August monthly meeting, as the election period is due to start on September 17.

For the decision to be made at the August meeting, applications will have to be received by August 7. With the Community Grants Policy also being reviewed at present and which will not be voted on by Council until the July monthly meeting this means the earliest the grants process can open is Wednesday, 24 July, leaving just two weeks for applications.

In order to maximise the number of applications, Council encourages community groups and organisations to contact us well ahead of that time so they can be ready to go as soon as applications open.

As always, applicants should contact the relevant Council staff member to discuss their applications and this list can be found on Council’s website.
