Journalism icon hosting a meet & greet

Italian-born journalist Ivano Ercole is returning to Mount Gambier for a mentoring session with 5GTR staff and this time, Ivano is also holding a meet and greet for the public in an exclusive lunch event at Metro Bakery and Café.

Born in a small town in Tuscany, Ivano grew up and studied in Florence, moving to Australia as a 30-year-old where he immersed himself in the world of journalism, working for a decade as a radio broadcaster at SBS Melbourne, as well as writing for a variety of Italian and Australian publications, penning books on the history of Italian migration to Australia and working as a translator.

He was also the long standing director of Rete Italia radio network and his connection with this region was borne out of becoming a popular, regular contributor to 5GTR’s L’Italiano in Onda (The Italian On Air) show, hosted by Rosangela Crispino, where Ivano discusses current affairs in a half hour segment called Buon A Sapensi (It’s Good to Know).

The good news for the community, is they can now access the thoughts and expertise of Ivano at the lunch event at Metro Bakery and Café on Sunday, February 8, from 12noon.

The $20 a head event for a meal of pizza and pasta while listening to the diverse and intriguing anecdotes from Ivano has limited places so secure you place.

Aside from his experience in the Australian media landscape, Ivano immersed himself in classical studies during his time in Florence, studying literature, philosophy and music and now taps back into that part of his life as a lecturer in those subjects at the University of the Third Age in Melbourne.

Ivano is also working on a Biography Dictionary of Australia’s Italians.
