Long serving councillor takes on new role
The District Council of Grant has installed a new Deputy Mayor with Cr Bruce Bain taking on the role.
Cr Bain takes over the Cr Megan Dukalskis with the council having earlier made the decision to rotate the role in one year stints throughout the three year Local Government term.
The elected members saw the rotation of the second-in-charge role as providing a greater opportunity for collaboration and development and so at its February meeting last year, it was resolved that those appointed in the role would stand for a term of one year only, with the current incumbent ineligible for re-nomination in the term immediately after.
Cr Megan Dukalskis was recognised for her contributions and support of Mayor Kylie Boston over the past year.
Mayor Boston said she was pleased that the elected member group have been supportive of sharing the position.
“Once again, it was terrific to see multiple elected members show a keen interest and put their hands up for the Deputy Mayor role,” she said. “I am excited to work alongside Councillor Bruce Bain over the next 12 months and congratulate him on the appointment.”
The selection will see Cr Bruce Bain work more closely with Mayor Boston and temporarily act as mayor in periods of absence or as required at civic and ceremonial events.
Cr Bain said he was excited to be given the opportunity to act in the role as District Council of Grant Deputy Mayor.
“I thank my fellow elected members for sharing this opportunity,” he said. “I look forward to supporting Mayor Kylie Boston wherever the opportunity arises and serving our community in this new role.
“I would also like to extend my thanks to Cr Megan Dukalskis for her work as Deputy Mayor over the past 12 months.”
Cr Bain has been a committed District Council of Grant elected member since 2003 and is currently a representative on Council’s Awards Advisory Group.
Councillor Bain will hold the position of Deputy Mayor until January next year.
