Magical musical event
CHLOE Matharu and Bhan Tre are worldwide names in the Celtic music scene, and they’ll soon be entertaining the audience at the Casterton Town Hall.
The Melbourne Celtic Festival on Tour heads to the venue on Thursday, March 27, and locals are in for a treat as the St Patrick’s Day spirit keeps rolling on with the cream of the crop from the festival.
As part of the Portland Arts Centre’s PAC to Go! Program, the Casterton Town Hall will come alive with an unforgettable production featuring the best of Celtic music with international sensation Chloe Matharu direct from Scotland, and traditional all female Irish trio Bhan Tre.
Chloe Matharu, an award-winning 27-year-old singer-songwriter and Celtic harpist of Scottish-Indian descent, will grace the stage with her enchanting voice and mesmerising harp skills.
Chloe will perform songs from her award-winning debut album Small Voyages and her newly released follow-up album Sailors and Rolling Stones.
Many of her songs draw on her time as a Navigational Officer in the Merchant Navy, inspired by the natural world as experienced at sea.
She has performed at impressive venues such as Celtic Connections, Cambridge Folk Festival, Glad Cafe Glasgow, Green Note in London, Fringe by the Sea, Edinburgh Fringe and Hartlepool Folk Festival.
She received Celtic Music Radio’s Album of the Year for Small Voyages, which was released in October 2022, and for Sailors and Rolling Stones.
Traditional Irish trio Bhan Tre will take you to the heart of Ireland with their authentic renditions of beloved Irish songs and new tunes. Their close harmonies, humour and toe-tapping music captures the true essence of Irish tradition.
Bhan Tre have been around for 30 years, and Geraldine Davis, Rebecca Humphreys and Sue Foley have had more than their fair share of musical fun and adventure.
Performances in Australia and Ireland, television appearances and supporting international artists has seen Bhan Tre’s popularity grow with a repertoire of traditional and original song and their reputation for divine vocal harmonies mixed with mirth and mischief.
Their three albums combine foot-stomping Celtic tunes which great mastery of the fiddle and guitar along with moving songs from Celtic lore which stir the soul.
