Making the return to school easier
United Way Glenelg, in collaboration with Southwest Community Foundation, FRRR, and AWA Alliance Bank has proudly announced its latest initiative to alleviate the financial burden faced by families during the new school year.
Eligible families have been granted vouchers valued at $50 each, enabling them to purchase essential school items such as uniforms, such as shoes and school supplies. This initiative aims to address the challenges many families face in affording back-to-school supplies.
United Way Glenelg executive officer Nicole Carr said they recognised that the cost of back-to-school supplies can be a significant challenge for many families.
The collaboration received a generous contribution of $2400 from AWA Alliance Bank, enhancing the impact of the initiative.
Sixteen schools from across the Glenelg Shire accessed the vouchers, ensuring a widespread reach.
Portland Primary School assistant principal Rai Cullen was thankful for the opportunity to apply on behalf of their families.
“We are always very grateful for the support we get,” Mrs Cullen said.
“United Way Glenelg firmly believes that every child deserves an equal opportunity to succeed in school, irrespective of their family’s financial circumstances,” Ms Carr said.
Direct collaboration with all primary and secondary schools in the community ensured that those who needed it the most had access to the vouchers. In total, more than $5000 worth of vouchers have been made available for families.
This initiative is part of United Way Glenelg’s ongoing commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of people in the community through their education pillar.
