Navigating the aged care sector

June 21, 2025 BY

LOCALS are invited to attend a free community event focused on planning for aged living, and then when required, aged care.

Hosted by the Mount Gambier and Districts Health Advisory Council (HAC), this event aims to help people understand the steps involved with entering aged care and provide the tools to confidently plan for the future.

This informative event will feature presentations on:

• Financial planning for aged care

• Understanding wills and legal considerations

• Navigating Centrelink and government support

• Insights from Boandik Lodge, a respected local aged care provider

The forum offers a valuable opportunity to be informed, asked questions, and connect with professionals who can help guide your next steps – whether you’re planning for yourself or supporting someone close to you.

Health Advisory Council member and event organiser Sue Szopory said the event is about arming people with the information they need to plan for the future.

“We want to help people feel prepared, not overwhelmed,” Ms Szopory said. “There are many things to consider when looking at aged care, so this event is about giving our community the information and reassurance they need, early on.”

Health Advisory Council presiding member Josh Lynagh said the session is about starting open conversations in a welcoming and accessible way.

“Aged care is something many of us will need to understand sooner or later,” Mr Lynagh said. “This event is a chance to hear from people who know the system, ask questions, and walk away with real, practical guidance.”

The event will be held at the Mount Gambier RSL Function Room on Wednesday, June 25, with two identical sessions held for convenience, one from 10am until midday, and an evening session from 6pm until 8pm.
