New leader inducted at Rotary

LAKES Rotary recently had the pleasure of inducting Andrew Matheson as their 37th president, taking over the reins from outgoing president Mark Teakle.

Reflecting on the past year, the club celebrated the success of another Blue Lake Fun Run, the Science and Engineering Challenge for high school students, headlight checks and the Australia Day Breakfast.

In addition to these longstanding key events the club also initiated domestic violence awareness campaigns, involving coffee cup stickers and flyers to be placed in toilets and lunchrooms throughout businesses, organisations and schools in the Limestone Coast.

Lakes Rotary environmental program of recycling stations located in both Woolworths, in Coles and the Civic Centre continues to grow and the club has been amazed at how many kilos of bottle caps have been taken for recycling, in conjunction with the City of Mount Gambier and Tenison Woods College.

From the volunteer hours and fundraising activities conducted the club is extremely pleased to report it has donated nearly $45,000 back into groups and organisations within our community over the last 12 months. Without the support of local businesses, sponsors and the general public this would not have been possible, and the club is truly thankful.

For the first time in some years Lakes Rotary is also supporting an outboard Rotary Exchange student, who will leave for Germany in January 2026.

Like many, the club cannot do what is does without healthy volunteer numbers and with an ageing volunteer base it needs new numbers to continue to sustain its current activities.
