WATTLE Range Council holds a series of events in October each year to celebrate seniors in the community and in response to community feedback, council is introducing a refreshed format for this year’s celebrations.

They are shifting from a month-long program to a dynamic Seniors Week with the launch of a program of additional events to be held throughout the year.

Wattle Range Council’s director development services Emma Clay said this year Seniors Week will feature fun, intergenerational activities, and uplifting events that highlight the experiences, stories and achievements of our older residents.

The initiative is proudly supported by the Celebrate Seniors Working Party, a team of passionate community volunteers dedicated to acknowledging the efforts and stories of our older residents.

The festivities kick off with the opening ceremony afternoon tea and sing-along at the Millicent Civic and Arts Centre.

Other Seniors Week highlights include grandparents’ day in Penola, an open day at the Millicent Museum, the ever-popular Lake McIntyre Walk and various lunches around the district.

“From lunch at the Tantanoola Tiger Hotel to the Lion’s Den in Millicent, we look forward to local events that all help us celebrate our Seniors,” Ms Clay said.

The additional monthly events will include activities such a sports day, movie screening, bingo, dancing and cooking demonstrations.

“Events during Senior’s Week are designed to bring people of all ages together, bridging gaps and creating bonds,” Ms Clay said.

“Seniors Week and celebrating seniors all year round with ongoing events provides an opportunity for us all to stop, reflect and celebrate the invaluable contributions of our seniors.”
