New program looking to reskill
A NEW initiative in Mount Gambier is reigniting men’s confidence and propelling them back into the job market with renewed vigour.
Launched by IntoJobs, part of the IntoWork Group, ‘ElevateMEn’ is a targeted program designed to support men in re-entering the workforce by equipping them with essential skills and fostering a strong sense of community.
Many men in the region face significant hurdles when re-entering the job market or advancing their careers, such as a lack of confidence, communication difficulties, and feelings of isolation.
Recognising these challenges, the IntoJobs Mount Gambier team developed ‘ElevateME’” to address these specific issues and help participants overcome employment barriers.
Recent statistics highlight the severity of the problem, with nearly 30 per cent of men in Australia reporting feelings of isolation and a lack of confidence.
Additionally, the male suicide rate in Australia is alarmingly high, with men accounting for approximately 75 per cent of all suicides.
In response, ‘ElevateMEn’ offers a comprehensive and supportive program that focuses on building communication and confidence through workshops, group discussions, and hands-on activities.
The program creates an engaging and nurturing environment where men can learn, grow, and support each other.
IntoJobs Mount Gambier site leader Adrian Koop said the impact of ‘ElevateMEn’ has been nothing short of remarkable.
“’ElevateMEn’ is more than just a program; it’s a lifeline for men in Mount Gambier, providing them with the tools and support they need to thrive in the job market and beyond,” Mr Koop said. “Ten men have already joined the initiative, with eight completing the eight-day program with perfect attendance.
“Perhaps the most inspiring aspect of ‘ElevateMEn’ is the camaraderie it has fostered. It’s not just about gaining skills; it’s about building a support network that helps men navigate the often daunting process of job hunting and career development.
“The program has helped participants gain a deeper understanding of their strengths and skills, a vital step towards achieving their goals.”
Participants have been overwhelmingly positive, with one stating, “I feel more motivated to express myself and find work,” and another noting a “stronger sense of self-worth.”
The success of ‘ElevateMEn’ was made possible thanks to the support of key partners, including ITFE, Prime Effect, and IntoJobs.
