Once in a lifetime maritime adventure
St Martins student back from the high seas
St Martins Lutheran College student Eleanor Doyle has returned from a once-in-a-lifetime trip touring some of Australia’s leading maritime facilities.
The Year 10 student was selected to participate in the 2023 Maritime Immersion Camp in Tasmania last month.
The camp is an initiative of the Australian Maritime College (AMC), BAE Systems and the Maritime High School of South Australia, LeFevre High School. During the week, Eleanor was given special opportunities to engage in a range of maritime experiences and to explore study pathways and careers at the Australian Maritime College (AMC).
Before setting sail for Launceston, the group toured BAE systems in Adelaide and heard from a variety of industry specialists about the technology, expertise and experience that make up Australia’s maritime industry.
Eleanor got to see inside world class testing facilities at the AMC maritime simulation centre, participated in a day long ship emergency simulation and gained valuable insights into the industry over the course of the week.
“My trip to Tasmania was amazing, I had the opportunity to hear from experts in the maritime industry, tour AMC (Australian Maritime College), take part in training simulations, drive different types of vessels and see Cataract Gorge,” Eleanor said.
“I travelled to Tasmania with 13 other students from South Australia who were also picked for the program, by the end of the week we had all learnt a lot and become good friends.” Tofind out more, please visit the Australian Maritime College’s website: https://www.amc.edu. au/schools-community/maritimeimmersion-camp
