The Mount Gambier City Hall played host to 170 people for Christmas Day lunch last year and the community event is back on again this year with volunteers in place busily organising a day to remember.

The Community Christmas Day Lunch has become a mainstay on the calendar, providing an option for people without family or friends to spend December 25 and organising committee member Kevin Douglas said they were expecting 200 people at this year’s event. They also provide take away options.

Bookings are essential as numbers are limited, with bookings open the first two weeks of December and can be made by calling Kevin on 0418 840 947.

Doors open at 11.45am with a traditional three-course Christmas lunch on the menu, and organisers also have a bus on offer to pick up and drop people off so they can take their place at the table.

Everyone will also leave with a gift bag and there are collection bins at the Mount Gambier Golf Club and Bendigo Bank for people to drop off toiletries to be part of those bags.

“Mount Gambier people are so generous and we are always inundated with donations,” Kevin said.
