Santa with a difference
Mount Gambier Library will offer private ‘Sensitive Santa’ sessions for families on Thursday, December 14, from 3pm until 6pm.
Children’s & Youth Services library assistant Bek Coates said library staff understood that going to busy spaces to visit Santa can be tricky for some families.
“We are offering our inclusive ‘Sensitive Santa’ sessions where you can book in for a 15-minute one-on-one Santa visit, in a dedicated festive room minus the noise, flashing lights and lots of people,” Mrs Coates said.
Upon booking, parents or caregivers will complete a small questionnaire to assist with their child’s unique experience.
Santa will already know the child’s name, be aware of any challenges, and if the situation suits, a photo will be taken and given in both print and digital form to cherish.
Each child will walk away with a small gift from Santa and happy memories.
“We also welcome little families to book in together so that siblings don’t miss out,” Mrs Coates said.
This initiative was piloted last year and due to the overwhelming success, Mount Gambier Library has increased the amount of session times available for families, with time slots available up until 6pm for those wanting to attend outside school hours.
“Being involved in Sensitive Santa was one of the most rewarding experiences for me. The library was inundated with positive messages of thanks from parents who under usual circumstances, a visit to Santa is not possible,” Mrs. Coates said.
With limited spaces available, bookings are essential by calling the library on (08)8721 2540.
