South East to lose free-to-air AFL coverage

Free-to-air AFL coverage will no longer be available in South East SA as Seven channels are pulled from regional TV.
Mount Gambier and the wider South East region are set to lose free-to-air access to AFL coverage, with WIN Network confirming it will no longer broadcast Seven Network channels including 7, 7mate and 7two from Monday 1 July.
The decision follows a breakdown in negotiations between WIN and Seven West Media, ending a broadcast partnership that has long delivered live AFL, Test cricket and other major events into regional homes.
The change affects viewers across Mount Gambier, Loxton and Griffith in New South Wales’ Riverina, who will need to access Seven’s programming via the 7plus streaming platform instead.
“While we are disappointed with Seven West Media’s decision, we respect their right to pursue their commercial strategies,” WIN Network chief executive Andrew Lancaster said.
Those without reliable internet or streaming access may be left without a way to watch live matches or national sporting coverage.
WIN has confirmed no jobs will be lost, with local staff to remain in Mount Gambier, Berri and Griffith.
Seven has left the door open to further negotiations with WIN.
The announcement comes as Seven prepares to take control of new regional licences from Southern Cross Austereo, expanding its reach across Tasmania, Spencer Gulf, Broken Hill and other areas from 30 June.
