HEYWOOD Consolidated School is enhancing student safety thanks to funding received from United Way Glenelg’s Community Fund, which has enabled the purchase of padded goal post covers for the school’s football fields.

The installation of the covers is part of the school’s commitment to creating a safer, more inclusive environment for all students during play.

The project responds directly to community concerns raised about the potential risk of injury posed by uncovered sports equipment.

United Way Glenelg executive officer Nicole Carr said the initiative is a strong example of local dollars supporting local solutions.

“Safe, active play is essential for physical and mental wellbeing,” Ms Carr said.

“This project is a simple but powerful way to reduce injury risk and support student health. We’re proud to help the Heywood school community achieve this goal.”

“The Community Fund is made possible through the generosity of local employees who contribute via workplace giving programs.

“Every dollar in our Community Fund comes directly from people in our region donating through payroll giving. We’re proud to say that 100% of those donations go straight back into local projects like this one—real, practical support for our community.”

Heywood Consolidated principal Ann Hawker said the support has already made a difference.

“Our students can now enjoy football and outdoor activities with greater confidence,” Ms Hawker said.

“These padded covers are a preventative measure, helping us ensure our children feel secure and supported while being active.”

The funding covered the cost of 12 removable padded covers, which will be used on both the full and junior football fields during school hours and made available for broader community use when appropriate.
