Students head into real world to experience potential careers

GRANT High School has again demonstrated its commitment to future-focused education through the success of its annual Immersion Week—a dynamic initiative that gives students the opportunity to explore a broad range of career pathways and gain first-hand industry experience.

Throughout the week, Year 10 students immersed themselves in real-world learning by engaging directly with professionals and visiting organisations across a variety of key sectors, including Primary Industries, Healthcare, Education and Youth Support, Hair, Beauty and Wellbeing, Hospitality, Technology, and Machining and Engineering.

The program enabled students to step beyond the classroom and into the workplace, where they gained valuable insights into potential career pathways and developed a deeper understanding of the skills and attributes required in each field.

Grant High School career education and pathways coordinator Josh Praolini said the program was all about connection—linking learning with life beyond school.

“We’re incredibly proud of the curiosity, engagement, and maturity shown by our students as they embraced these immersive experiences,” he said.

“Strong community partnerships are the cornerstone of Immersion Week. These relationships not only offer students meaningful exposure to the world of work but also foster collaboration, trust, and a shared sense of purpose between education and industry.”

By engaging with local employers and community organisations, Immersion Week highlights the importance of mutual investment: students build confidence and career awareness, while businesses play a vital role in shaping the future workforce—and, in many cases, identifying their potential future employees.

Grant High School was grateful to the many local businesses, industry leaders, and community organisations who generously gave their time, expertise, and resources to support this initiative.

Their involvement has been instrumental in enriching students’ learning journeys and strengthening the bridge between school and the wider community.
