Take time out for you
HEART disease is one of the leading causes of death for women in Australia, yet many women in the Limestone Coast region are missing out on the regular health checks and information that could save their lives.
At the same time, women are often juggling work, family, caring roles, and the invisible ‘mental load’ of running households.
Too often, their own wellbeing is pushed to the bottom of the list.
LCWHC committee member and GP Dr Monique Kanters said this expo was about giving women permission to put themselves first/
“We know women do so much for others – but learning the signs of heart disease and taking time for your own health is an investment in your future and your family’s,” Dr Kanters said.
The Women’s Health Week Expo on Friday, September 5, at the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre will feature a full program of speakers, interactive demonstrations, and hands-on activities – all designed to help women recognise the signs of cardiovascular disease, understand their risk factors, and build confidence in making small, sustainable changes for lifelong heart health.
“This isn’t just about information – it’s a day for women to slow down, try something new, and walk away with practical tools to support their health,” LCWHC committee member Lucy Lines said.
What to expect on the day:
Talks from local health experts on heart health, nutrition, movement, and stress management
Interactive activities including yoga, meditation, and mindfulness sessions
Free health checks such as blood pressure testing
Stalls and displays from local health and wellbeing providers
Lucky Door prizes and goodie bags and the opportunity to connect with other women
