Summer Reading Club returns to library

The Mount Gambier Library’s popular Summer Reading Club is back for 2022/2023 with this year’s theme Your Adventure Awaits. The club is open to four age groups – 0-5 years, 6-11 years, 12-14 years, and 15-18 years – with children invited into the library to register and receive their ‘Treasure Map’ taking them on a journey of reading challenges throughout the summer.

Mount Gambier Library children’s and youth services coordinator Kelly Lynch said the Summer Reading Club inspires opportunities to keep children engaged all summer long and participate in activities and challenges with family and friends. “The last couple of years have seen over 300 children and youth participate in the reading incentive club,” Ms Lynch said.

This year, participants can find the ‘hidden’ golden parrot for a daily prize and complete weekly challenges to win some great prizes. Upon completion, everyone enters the major prize draw with all prizes on display at the Library.

“Weekly prizes are age-appropriate for each level and include a variety of games, play-doh, specialised art materials. The major prizes consist of LeapFrog learning packs, portable speakers, mini robotics, craft packs, wireless headphones, and more,” Ms Lynch said.

The Summer Reading Club concludes with a free pool party at the Wulanda Recreation and Convention Centre on January 24, 2023, with refreshments supplied. As they say, you’ve got to be in it to win it. Make reading part of your child’s summer adventure and pop into the Mount Gambier Library to register.
