Time to nominate selfless volunteers

DO you know someone who is actively helping our community for the better?

The District Council of Grant are asking for your help to recognise the unsung heroes within our district by nominating them for a 2025 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award.

The Awards celebrate the contributions of individuals and organisations who dedicate their time to making our district a better place in areas such as education, health, environment, business, sport, arts and community services.

District Council of Grant Mayor Kylie Boston said it is important that individuals and groups are celebrated for their valued commitment.

“The Awards are our chance to shine a spotlight on those who go above and beyond making our community a strong and vibrant place to live, work and play,” Mayor Boston said.

Nominations are open for the following categories:

• Young Citizen of the Year

• Citizen of the Year

• Community Event of the Year

• Active Citizenship

“If you know an individual, organisation, group or event that has made a meaningful contribution in our community, I encourage you to show your appreciation by nominating them for an Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award.”

2024 Australia Day Citizen of the Year Award recipient and Mil-Lel A&H Show Society Life Member Liza Kirby reflected on being awarded presented with the annual Award.

“Although I have been recognised individually for this Award, I really do see it as a group Award as I could not do what I do without the support and friendship of our Mil-Lel Show Committee,” Mrs Kriby said.

“Volunteers don’t necessarily have the time, they just have the heart,”

“Thank you very much to the District Council of Grant for the Citizen of the Year Award for recognising my years of service … I feel exceptionally proud.”

Award nominees and winners will be celebrated and presented with certificates at a private event on Sunday 26 January 2025.

Nominations close 5:00pm Friday 15 November 2024. Submissions can be made online via citizenoftheyear.com.au or directed to the District Council of Grant at 324 Commercial Street West / PO Box 724, Mount Gambier SA 5290 or emailed to [email protected].
