Windfall for student garden program
MULGA Street Primary School is thrilled to announce a generous donation from MGA Whittles, which will significantly enhance the school’s Stephanie Alexander Kitchen and Garden programs.
This support comes at a crucial time as the school aims to inspire healthier food choices and foster a sense of community among students and families.
Mulga Street Primary School principal Keston Green said the $40,000 donation would be instrumental in transforming the school’s facilities.
Plans include creating a versatile kitchen space with mobile workstations, installing hot water systems, and potentially adding electric stove tops and a large dishwasher.
“These improvements will enable students to engage in hands-on cooking experiences, integrating literacy and numeracy skills with real-world applications,” Mrs Green said.
“We are deeply grateful for the support from MGA Whittles, which will significantly impact our students’ learning and well-being. This project will inspire our community to embrace healthy food options and participate in simple and affordable cooking activities. We are dedicated to fostering a positive culture and a sense of belonging at Mulga Street Primary School.”
The school has already invested in revitalising unused spaces, creating a chicken coop, and purchasing essential cooking tools.
The donation from MGA Whittles will further these efforts, ensuring the success of the Stephanie Alexander kitchen and garden programs.
“Mulga Street Primary School looks forward to involving the community in this exciting project, with plans to invite MGA Whittles to the opening of the new space,” Mrs Green said. “The school is dedicated to maintaining a strong partnership with the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden program, ensuring ongoing benefits for students.”
MGA Whittles Group of Companies executive chairman John George OAM said the MGA Whittles Group of Companies was delighted to be involved in projects of this nature that provides important skills to our students who will carry them on throughout their future lives.
“Our thanks and congratulations from our board of directors to the teachers and operatives at Mulga Street Primary School who have had the foresight to take this important project on board. A great addition to the school’s curriculum,” Mr George said.
