District Council of Grant Executive Trainee Evie Sealey and Port MacDonnell Community Complex Trainee Ruby Kenny excited to get creative at the Acrylic Pour Workshop, whilst Community Development Coordinator Emma Telford tests the pool table available for use throughout Youth Week 2024.

The District Council of Grant is hosting a variety of free activities at the Port MacDonnell Community Complex to celebrate SA Youth Week taking place between Friday, March 15 and Sunday, March 24.

Mayor Kylie Boston said the organised activities are a fantastic opportunity for teenagers and young adults to have fun and meet new people. They are aimed at the 12-25 age bracket.

“Young people are the future of our community, and we want to ensure they feel connected and safe,” Mayor Boston said. “I encourage youth in our district to get involved by attending events throughout the program and make new connections.

“Celebrating and providing opportunities for our youth doesn’t stop at the end of Youth Week, Council will continue to listen to their ideas, work with, and for, them into the future.”

Youth Week is the State’s largest annual celebration of young people and aims to recognise the ideas, talents and contributions of young people in South Australia and incorporates a range of events created for young people to enjoy.

District Council of Grant growth and tourism manager Rebecca Perkin said staff were excited to offer this year’s Youth Week program and provide the opportunity for young people in the district to activate the youth area in the complex.

“The complex is a hub for community activity and many of our local youth already use the free pool table and gaming consoles available in the complex,” Ms Perkin said. “We encourage them to join the special Youth Week activities and would also love to welcome some new faces to discover our dedicated youth area through Youth Week activities.

“We hope to continue to increase youth engagement through the Port MacDonnell Community Complex and offer activities for young people to suit a range of interests into the future.”

Throughout Youth Week, bats and cues will be available at the complex to use on the outdoor ping pong table and indoor pool table for no cost. Upon completion of games and return of equipment, participants will be entered into the draw for a lucky door prize with the raffle to be drawn at the conclusion of Youth Week on Sunday, March 24.
