WITH the first and second rounds of the short course yellow marker cancelled due to inclement weather a few weeks ago and still to be rescheduled, the third round was finally able to be played by the women at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week in mild winter conditions.
The Short Course Trophy is sponsored by Grant and Dianne Perryman, the stableford event attracting 28 women and with reduced handicaps set by golflink, the scratch rating was 60 and the par rating 65.
The short course yellow marker was introduced in 2019 and has become a permanent and popular part of the calendar, but can still throw up some challenges as it changes the state of play and includes a lot more long iron play for some.
The shot of the day came from Sue Agars with an eagle two on the 8th, receiving six balls from Gary Stevens, who sponsors the women’s eagle nest.
Helen Myers was the winner in Division One, after a countback from Dianne Perryman, both signing for 33 points.
Myers played off an 8 handicap and had splits of 17/16 that included 4 pars and a birdie on the outward nine and two pars and a birdie on the inward nine.
Perryman played off 12 and had four pars on the outward nine and two pars on the inward nine with splits of 18/15.
Third placed was Sue Agars after a four-way countback with Rosemary Martland, Helen Stratford and Ronda Edwards all posting 32 points.
Agars played off 11 with splits of 15/16 that included her eagle for four points and three three-pointers.
Division Two winner was Johanna Gogan playing off 24 scoring 31 points and forcing a countback with Bev Pascoe 19 handicap also with 31 points.
Both had splits of 13/18 and par three-pointers on the 18th hole.
Third on the podium was Carol Melhuish with 30 points off her 24 handicap with splits of 18/12 that included three three-pointers.
Nearest to the pin 2nd shot on the 2nd hole winners were Helen Stratford ( chip-in two) and Lynda Nannings (1.95).
The pro-shot winner was Myers (1.60). Birdies were scored by Stratford 2nd, Edwards 5th, Myers 5th and 16th, Dianne Perryman 6th, Karen Panagopoulos 13th. Chip-in ferrets Stratford 2nd, Gogan 16th.JULY 12 RESULTS
Sixteen women teed off with the majority in the early morning tee-off timeslots feeling the chill factor more that their later tee-off counterparts who enjoyed some much welcomed sunshine.
As has been mentioned in previous write-ups Carol Downing has been in a purple patch and it continued after her last Saturday’s round topping the leader board once again, signing for 105/35/70 one stroke under the par 71.
Her splits of 52/53 included a par on the 8th, rated the 2nd hardest hole on the women’s index, and was one stroke under on the outward nine, all square on the inward nine.
Helen Stratford followed taking the second place voucher posting 94/22/72 with even splits of 47/47 that included pars on the 2nd, 11th and 15th holes, one stroke under on the outward nine two over on the inward nine.
Dianne Perryman 97/22/75 was 3rd on the podium with splits of 48/49, all square on the outward nine, four over on the inward nine.
The ball run down included Karyn Coon nett 78, Judy Hunter 79 c/b Geraldine Scott.
Nearest to the pin on the 5th was Renae McQuade (2.60), the long drive winner was Downing ane least putts winner was Scott.
