THE WOMEN teed up last week at the Blue Lake Golf Club for the first of four rounds of the Marlene Lingham Memorial Trophy played in stableford format.

The weather was mild after the previous night’s rain making it a little heavy underfoot but with still with reasonable run on the fairways.

It has been said previously that Josie Ashby likes golf in June and this year is no exception starting off the month with a win.

Ashby top scored for Division One winning a voucher from the day’s sponsor Metro bakery and cafe

Ashby signed for 36 points to play to her 20 handicap her card included three-point pars on the 5th, 9th and 13th along with a three-pointer on the 6th hole in her 19/17 splits with no pick-ups recorded.

Geraldine Scott was second with 34 points off her 25 handicap and three-point pars on the 2nd, 4th and 9th were recorded in her outward 19 points along with a three-pointer on the 13th in her inward 15 points.

Sue Agars (21) was third after a three-way tie with Helen Stratford and Beryl Mahoney all returning scores of 33 points forcing a countback.

Agars had a lowly 10 points on the outward nine with a par on the 2nd to then blitz the inward nine scoring 23 points from a three-point par on the 15th to finish with four- point birdies on the 14th and 17th holes.

Kristy Janeway who has been settling into Wednesday golf as well as a regular on Saturday’s has been slowly reducing her handicap and played off 33 scoring 35 points playing one under par.

Janeway has developed an easy swing and with a bit more fine tuning around the greens will be one to progress nicely.

Her splits of 15/20 included five three-pointers with a fine par four-pointer on the 18th hole.

Veteran Rose Case (45) took out the second place voucher after a countback with Trudy-Anne Doyle after both signing for 33 points.

Case had four three-pointers as well as a fine four-pointer on the dog- leg 15th. Doyle (38) settled for third on the podium after her massive outward 23 points dwindled to 10 points on the inward nine.

Her card recorded a four-point par on the 2nd and four three-pointers.

Nearest to the pin 2nd shot winner’s on the long par three 16th were Agars (1.03) and Lee Anderson (1.32). Pro-shot winner on the 5th was Sally Houlihan (4.14), karen Panagopoulos scored a birdie on the 12th and Agars on the 14th and 17th. Lucy Richards won herself a chocolate bar for a chip-in ferret on the 2nd.MAY 31 RESULTS

Once again mild weather was conducive to some good scores recorded by some of the 22 women in the stableford competition.

Rosemary Martland was top scorer signing for 38 points off her 14 handicap.

Playing consistent golf on both nines posting splits of 19/19 and with no pickups this accumulated into 83 off the stick.

Martland had four three-point pars on both nines.

Renae McQuade (36) is still making her mark steadily reducing her handicap after most outings and her 36 points playing to par will possibly see another drop.

Her splits of 22/14 included pars on the 5th and 15th holes.

Third on the podium was Helen Stratford signing for 35 points off her 21 handicap with splits of 17/18 that included pars on the 14th and 15th holes.

In the ball rundown were Lyn Annand 34 c/b Lee Anderson 34, Dianne Perryman 33 c/b.

Nearest to the pin on the 5th was Anderson (4.92) and BB9 scorer was Annand.
