Division One winner Josie Ashby with runner up Annette Ford

AFTER a few weeks of fine weather, the heaven’s opened up with drizzly rain and a few heavy showers changing the conditions on the course at the Blue Lake Golf Club last week.

First on the agenda was the Caffe Belgiorno sponsored 2026 Handicap Championships.

Unfortunately there were a few byes due to medical issues and top qualifier in Division 1 Annette Ford draw a bye advancing to the semi finals.

Next was Jaynee Oberer v Rosemary Martland with Oberer taking the win 1up.

Martland had to relinquish a massive 15 handicap strokes and Oberer made great use of these.

Ronda Edwards v Helen Stratford was another going to the last hole with Edwards taking the win 1up.

Stratford received five handicap strokes.

Last was another very close game between Sally Houlihan v Karen Panagopoulos both off 21 handicap and went to the wire with the win to Panagopoulos 1up.

Division Two was also hampered with byes but led off with top qualifier Bev Pascoe v Gael Ford and after a bit of see-sawing Pascoe giving 11 handicap strokes to Ford took control winning 5/4.

Next was Johanna Gogan advancing to the semi finals with a bye along with Trudy Herbert also with a bye.

Lastly was Vivienne Wilson v Dianne Allen, Wilson taking the win 8/7 comfortably after relinquishing 9 handicap strokes.

MAY 2 RESULTS

Extremely warm gusty wind conditions added to the challenge of a par round that golfers know doesn’t allow for many mistakes to play to one’s handicap.

Twenty-five women graced the fairways with quite a few very respectable scores recorded.

Leading the was Sophie Johnson signing for +1 off her 41 handicap.

Both nines included four pluses with unfortunately a few too many wiped holes nullified an even better score.

Second on the podium after a four-way tie forcing countbacks was Renae McQuade off her 34 handicap square to the card that included one plus on the front nine and four pluses on the back nine.

Third was Ronda Edwards square off her 17 handicap and saw her score 4 pluses.

Annette Ford was fourth all square with five pluses on her card followed by sixth Fiona Pulford all square.

In the ball rundown all -1 were Josie Ashby, Kate Brown, Rosemary Martland and Lyn Annand. Nearest to the pin and pro-shot on the 5th was Kate Brown. BB9 Renae McQuade.
