Ball dominates bat in Barber Shield action

February 23, 2024 BY

Safe to say, for the most part, the ball dominated the bat on day one action of the final round of senior cricket.

East’s Alex Hentschke, Mil Lel’s Jack Miller; Penola’s Michael Waters and North Sportsman’s Tim Young all picked up five wicket hauls as making double figures proved a challenge for the vast majority of the Barber Shield bats.

West Gambier’s 9/264 from 80 overs was the outlier and even then, none of the Roos players passed the half century mark, despite most getting starts.

Penola veteran George Kidman wound back the clock in Crouch Shield action, smashing an unbeaten century from only 91 balls in an innings that yielded 16 boundaries and one six.

His top of the order cameo was well supported by Ned Skeer, who is also unbeaten on 46, with the two set to resume this weekend and pour more pain on the North Sportsman’s bowling attack.

It all comes down to this week with the junior grades with all three age group grand finals scheduled. Senior finals start next month.
